The mainstream Lithuanian magazine Veidas (Veidas.lt), a glossy publication available at every news stand in the country, published on its website on 14 November an article under the rubric of ‘History’ titled ‘The Nurnberg Military Court Tribunal: The Biggest Legal Farce in History’. Original here. Full English translation here.
The article’s author, Petras Stankeras, is a known historian. His book, The Lithuanian Police, 1941 — 1944 (in Lithuanian), was first published by the state-sponsored Genocide Research Center. He is now a government official at the Interior Ministry (the department responsible for law enforcement). Its website describes him as a ‘senior specialist’ in the ‘general department’.
The new article refers to ‘the legend about six million supposedly murdered Jews’, apparently signifying a shift from Baltic-style Holocaust Obfuscation (principally via the attempt to equalize Soviet and Nazi history into ‘two equal genocides’ = Double Genocide), and back to classic Holocaust Denial. The Double Genocide paradigm, promoted by state-financed commissions in all three Baltic states, has made significant headway in the European Parliament.
The newly published piece contains the following text:
‘It is also important that during the Nurnberg Trial the legend about six million supposedly murdered Jews acquired a legal basis, even though the court did not have a single document signed by A. Hitler concerning the extermination of Jews (this document, if it ever existed, has not been found to this day, although a million dollar reward has been promised).’
— Petras Stankeras, Veidas.lt
Earlier this year, Dr Stankeras wrote that ‘the banishing of the swastika symbol is a great suppression of culture’. Presumably he takes solace in the Klaipeda court’s ruling last spring that legalized public swastika displays in Lithuania.
