The assistant director of the Vilnius Yiddish Institute, Ruta Puisyte, reported today that Dr. Efraim Zuroff’s scheduled seminar at the Vilnius Yiddish Institute was cancelled on the orders of the institute’s director, Professor Sarunas Liekis. No explanation was given.

During his visit this month, Dr. Zuroff was very cordially received by various state agencies in Vilnius, the nation’s capital, as well as the mayor’s office and elementary school of his ancestral town Ligmyán (Linkmenys). Dr. Zuroff, an internationally known Holocaust historian and Nazi-hunter, who has been visiting Lithuania for close to two decades, is the director of the Simon Wiesenthal Center’s Israel office in Jerusalem.
